FEA Modeling
VEC uses the advanced capabilities of high-end software applications including I-DEAS Master Series for design, simulation and finite element modeling. Through the use of CADfix software, VEC's engineering department has the ability to translate and prepare virtually any format of customer CAD files for use with FEA and other CAE/CAM operations. This flexibility breaks down the barriers that used to exist between client and customer CAD packages.
FEA Modeling
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a method for solving complex mechanical problems using computers. It derives its name from the multiple small elements used to break up the problem for analysis. Choosing sound boundary conditions and loads, VEC engineers are able to simulate physical reality whatever the situation or complexity.
The mechanical behavior of products can be analyzed and optimized without the necessity of prototyping. Using FEA reduces time and cost during the design phase. It also adds to the safety and reliability of your product.
Benefits of FEA can be applied in many ways to optimize design performance. The information it provides can quickly focus development onto critical areas, delivering the benefits of increased durability, strength, reliability, and reduced weight of components and systems.
FEA can reduce the risks of your new product development by:
- Identifying potential design defects
- Accelerating your development time
- Optimizing your part design
- Reducing the number of physical prototypes
Incorporating FEA techniques into an engineering development process provides much more insight than the conventional design and test method allows. Strain gauging a prototype part only recovers a very select set of data. FEA not only provides the full picture, but also quickly focuses development on the critical areas. The structure can also be assessed over a wide range of loading conditions, which would otherwise involve costly prototype build and lengthy physical testing programs. Unlike testing, FEA can also show whether a component is over-engineered, thus highlighting the opportunity for material and weight savings.

Reverse Engineering and Dimensional Measurement Services
- Reverse Engineering
VEC Technology's FARO Laser Tracker system uses an ultra-precise laser beam to measure objects in the 0 - 115 ft. range faster, more accurately and precisely than any other measurement device in the world. It enables manufacturing, engineering, and quality control professionals to measure and inspect large parts, machine tools, and other large objects on-site, in process, or wherever it's most efficient and cost-effective. With its greater angular resolution, repeatability, and accuracy, the Faro Laser Tracker advances already-proven tracker technology.
Among its many enhanced features is SuperADM, which improves upon existing Absolute Distance Measurement technology, even providing the new, timesaving ability to re-acquire the beam without returning to a reference point. These and other features will help us complete virtually any type of large-scale measurement job with greater speed and accuracy.
The Laser Tracker utilizes the FARO CAM2 Software, which collects, organizes and outputs polylines and splines from thousands of digitized points. Designed specifically to meet the needs and challenges of the Designers, Model Makers and Reverse Engineers, CAM2 simplifies the digitizing process with powerful functions to gather, visualize and organize digitized points. It also prepares scanned data from any CMM for CAD input and surface model creation.
Extended point information is also collected to relate the point positions together. X-, Y-, Z-cuts, radial cuts, and form lines can be selected to create wire frames from point clouds, making the generation of surfaces with CAD systems easy and accurate.Â
3D Dimensional Measurement Services
From hole patterns to complex curved surfaces, CAM2 answers the shop floor measurement and fit questions that cost manufacturers money. CAM2 specializes in feature measurement and inspection and CAD-to-part comparison, where every measured part can be compared to engineering design files.
As a powerful inspection and measurement tool, CAM2 Measure can identify and verify feature locations such as holes, spheres and arcs for first article inspection or alignment. Because CAM2 draws features as they are measured, process control becomes instantaneous.
